American Idiot Design Project

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN FOR THEATRE WITH VECTORWORKS

In a Vectorworks class, I was assigned to design - from scratch - a proscenium theater, and design a scenic and light plot for the show American Idiot.

Step 1: Building a Theater

The first step of this project was to design a fictional theater. I constructed a full proscenium, complete with a fly gallery, catwalks, lighting positions, and a booth.

Step 2: Scenic Design

Though I have little experience in scenic design, I was able to use the tools Vectorworks provides to create a set suitable for American Idiot.

Step 3: Render Textures

Once I had my set designed, I learned how to apply, create, and modify render textures.

Step 4: The Light Plot

Once I had completed building the theater and set, I added my lighting design.

Step 5: Final Touches and Paperwork

After I completed my lighting design, I created a channel hookup, instrument summary, color schedule, color key, and title block.
